Statement by the Executive Committee of The KSIMC of London

In: Latest News

29th May 2017

Dear Members,
Salaamun Alaykum,

With the advent of this Holy month, on behalf of the Executive Committee (EC) of The KSIMC of London, I would like to wish you a very blessed month and may the Almighty grant us all the mercy and bounties He has reserved for those who fast during this month.

Subsequent to the Saturday 20th May 2017 declaration of the Electoral Commission that made the Elections for the forthcoming term ‘null and void’, we the EC have received feedback, comments, suggestions and proposals for our consideration. We also called a meeting of a few peers of the community to explore options for the way forward.

In order to consider all the counsel we received along with consultations with a few legal experts within the community, the EC met on Friday 26th May 2017 and resolved a few matters, charting a way forward for the community.

The EC are convinced that the status of the Electoral Commission at the time of declaration, despite the resignations and appointments made, was legitimate and lawful. Consequently, their declaration of the election results was bona fide and binding. An earlier announced list of ‘unopposed candidates’ and the cancellation of voting on Sunday 21st May 2017 did not constitute a declaration of the results.

Since the Electoral Commission has been constitutionally granted the status of being the ultimate authority in matters of the Elections, their decision is final and there exists no mechanism to appeal or challenge their decision except in a court of law, which we the EC unanimously believe would not be in the best interest of the community.

Since the elections have not taken place, the Constitution requires that the EC continue in office for the forthcoming year. During this time, we promise to look at the shortcomings and deficiencies of the election process as set out in the Constitution and address them to the best of our abilities. We are also cognisant of the busy oncoming months that will see a flurry of enhanced activities in the centre for our spiritual wellbeing during the months of Mahe-Ramadhan, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram and Safar. Holidays and weddings are also customarily held during the next few summer months.

We thus envisage The KSIMC of London holding elections on Sunday 10th December 2017, giving us time to carry out our responsibilities in ensuring that the shortcomings of the election process are duly overcome and do not recur. It also ensures that we hold the elections when there can be maximum participation by the membership, and candidates are given sufficient time and notice to prepare.

We have gone through turbulent times over the past few weeks or so and we believe that we will emerge more seasoned and stronger to face similar challenges in the event they arise again. The EC will continue to discharge its duties in the face of such difficulties, bearing in mind that our main responsibility is to ensure we have a smooth operation and do not allow ourselves to be distracted by such events.

Most of the EC had planned to step down and allow new blood to rise up to the challenge of steering this community forward. We do not believe they have been denied this opportunity; rather, they have been deferred for perhaps what may be in the best interest of the community. We plan and the Almighty plans and He is the best of all planners.

We are grateful to the whole community for their overwhelming support in allowing us the space and time to study and analyse the current situation, and come up with solutions that were made in the best interest of the community.

We hope you will continue to support us as you have as you have done over the past few years, and pray the Almighty accept all our deeds and actions which have always been aimed at acquiring His pleasure.

With Salaams and Duas,

Mustafa Mohamed (Jaffer)

Important statement from the Executive Committee of The KSIMC of London

In: Latest News

Dear Members,

Salaamun Alaykum,

It is with disappointment that we, the Executive Committee (EC), read the notification by the incumbent Electoral Commission Team (ECT), declaring the current Elections “null and void.” To this end, in our EC meeting to be held on Friday 26th May 2017, we will be deliberating primarily on this serious matter and proposing a clear way forward which we will share with you after the meeting.

We would like to reassure members and the community at large, that this EC is resolute in continuing to manage the affairs of the Jamaat smoothly especially during these turbulent times. We are also committed to ensuring that we do not leave the Jamaat without a clear direction. We urge members to exercise restraint and rely only on official communications issued by the EC or the ECT. Members are welcome to raise any concerns or observations they have, with the EC, via ec@hujjat.org

As we go through these trying times, please pray for a resolution in the best interests of the community for the pleasure of the Almighty.

Project North Star Presentation

In: Latest News

Salaam Alaykum

Inshallah you are well.

About 9 months ago we (the global KSI community) were asked to participate in a survey for The World Federation strategy review called “Project North Star”. The team has presented to the WF Executive Council, and will be sharing the findings and recommendations in the WF Conference in May 2017 inshAllah.

Given the volume of data from Europe and specifically Stanmore (amongst other large Jamaat), the team has analysed this data for us and is willing to share their findings on specifically our community. By only looking at responses from Stanmore they can share with us the insights they have gained and provide us areas to work on moving forward.

This data is only recently available, and we’d like to utilise the time before the forthcoming Jamaat Elections to share this information with community leaders and interested parties. We’d like to invite potential election candidates too, to learn about the challenges facing our community from an external perspective. The data shared will be valuable in shaping any future strategy.

Given the lack of available dates between now and elections, this briefing session will be held on Sunday 30 April 2017 at 10:30am. Please RSVP to assist with logistics.
